For a long time, Lemurs were kept as pets. But that was outlawed, and the lemurs that had been pets, who couldn’t be returned to the wild, were moved to Lemur Island. We took a very short boat ride, and were immediately greeted by the lemurs.
They had been taught that tourists were banana-delivery devices: if they stood on a tourist, they got a banana.
There are four kinds of lemurs on the island: Bamboo, black and white ruffed, brown lemur, and a Diademed Sifaka. It wasn’t natural, but it gave us some very good views of lemurs!
We walked through two islands, the third, with ring-tail lemurs, we had to stay in the boat. Still got some close up views.
We were told that the babies were released into the wild.
Later we had lunch at a nice restaurant with a pond where a Malagasy kingfisher was flitting about
Later, we had one final night walk.
