Rio de Janeiro Arrival

We had a smooth, long flight arriving at 8 in morning. Our host at Casa Beleza had arranged for a taxi picked us up and drive to the location in the Santa Teresa neighborhood.

The hotel — more a B&B, really — had a beautiful garden and a pool.

Casa Beleza also had a watchful dog.

We needed to stay awake to get on the local time zone (it was only off by one hour for Sheila, but four hours for me.) We left our bags and walked around Santa Teresa neighborhood.

We immediately noticed many murals.

In one shop, they heard us speak English and asked if we were here for the game. What game? We asked blankly.

Turns out the Green Bay Packers will take on the Philadelphia Eagles football teams for the opening game of the season in Sao Paulo this weekend. (Some) people were excited.

We continued to walk around, and got to the top of the neighborhood with a good, if hazy, view of the city.

It was very hot so we walked back to our hotel and took swim in the pool. My leg was in agony. There were lots of steps up to our (amazing) room, and they gave me trouble. That night, I barely slept because my calf was in agony – there was no position that I could lie in that would give it relief.
