The next day, we packed up and checked out. Sheila dropped me off at my campsite at Savage River, and then drove to Anchorage, and eventually headed home.
I spent three days camping in Denali. Although I had a good time, I did a bunch of things wrong (granted, some of the issues were with the Park Service bus system.) Because of the campground I was in, I had to decide before I started camping each day’s destination and time I would board the shuttles. I made the mistake of choosing destinations that were deep in the park, so I still spent a lot of time on the buses. But, since the tickets were non-refundable, I stubbornly spent more time riding, and less time hiking, than I had planned.
The first day, however, I walked the other side of the Alpine Trail that we had walked the day before.
The first day of camping, I took the bus to the Eielson visitors center.
Final day I took the bus out to Wonder Lake, and did a short hike.
The next day, I packed up my stuff, caught the shuttle to the visitor’s center, and caught the train to Fairbanks.
