Scuba Junkie – Mabul Turtle Rehabilitation Centre

On the second afternoon, we took a tour of the Mabul Turtle Rehabilitation Centre.  They had two turtles under their care, and a bunch of turtle eggs buried with dates of when they were expected to emerge.

I signed up to me notified whenever they were doing a turtle release, day or night. Sheila, who had seen a release on Pom Pom Island, said she would rather not wake up in the middle of the night for that.

On the fourth day, we were hanging out in the room after our outings when a messenger knocked and said the turtle were being released and did we want to watch? Yes, we did.

As they headed to the sea, predators were waiting – only 1 in 1,000 babies survive to adulthood.
