Kinabatagan River – Day 1

After the tour, we drove a few hours back the way Sheila and I had come the day before to Hornbill lodge on the banks of the Kinabatagan River. Our room was spacious (although not as larger as the night before) but at the top of 92 steps.

We arrived at lunch. We had a short time after that to get settled, and then headed out on our first river cruise.

There were ten of us: me and Sheila, Nick, Sandra, a couple from Manchester, a quiet couple from Mainland China, and a mom from China and her enthusiastic, bird-obsessed son. He was very knowledgeable, and often saw birds before the video, and knew their names. And could switch effortlessly between Chinese and English.
