In the afternoon, we cruised to where we had watched the otter family play and from each other the day before. This time, there was a jaguar above the den, and a single otter watching from the river. The jaguar went into the hole, but didn’t come out with anything.
Our guide said he probably got something there, and was looking for more.
Back to our first lagoon, but not much going on.
Heard of another jaguar sighting, but by the time we got there, it was gone. We continued up the river, and around a corner saw a tapir swimming – fairly rare. They are endangered and nocturnal. Also, weird looking.
We continued up the river, but (besides lots of birds) didn’t see much.
We headed back, zipping along. Then we noticed some fishermen pointing back at the river bank. We stared and stared, and suddenly saw the jaguar – right in front of us. Very good camouflage.
Back to the lodge to pack – tomorrow we head for South Pantanal and the SouthWild lodge.
