Kumul Lodge – continued

We got up early and drove about an hour to a small village that had the good luck to have a Bird of Paradise lek. After the guide sorted out the payment for the landowner, we scrambled down a short trail, and could see a tree where the birds gathered every morning. Unfortunately, they gathered on the other side of the tree and were very hard to see, except when they jumped up to dance.

We drove to find some other birds.

The original plan was to fly to Kiunga to see lowland birds on the river. However (to no surprise), Air Niugini messed things up by cancelling the flight. So the new plan was to fly back to Port Moresby and bird around there for a day, then fly to Kiunga.

There was no Boeing plane to fly back to Port Moresby — we flew back in the same type of plane that we had initially tried to take. (could have been the same one.) Fortunately, there was no sudden announcements or drops out of the sky.
