Heading for breakfast, a Sooty Grouse family wandered past our cabin. (In case you are wondering, Glacier Bay Lodge rooms are plain (Sheila says “rustic”), but nice and clean (although not enough outlets.) And I overheard one guest talking about the Internet connection in the main lodge: “It’s like 1980 here!”)
We were met at the lodge by Corey, our guide for a day of kayaking. We were the only two people in the group, which was a bonus.
The tour company provided our protective gear.
When we were putting the gear in the kayaks, the mist was heavy.
Corey assured us “when the fog is heavy and you can’t see anything, it’s peaceful – like you are in another world.”
Fortunately, the clouds slowly broke up.
It wasn’t sunny all day (and the wind kicked up in the afternoon), but we were able to see plenty, and it never rained. (Whew!)
We told Corey that we preferred seeing wildlife to straight-out kayaking, so he took up up a river (only accessible in high tide.)
We followed the tide down the river, and back to Bartlett’s Cove.
