Denali

We left Glacier Bay and flew to Anchorage. The next day picked up a rental car, ran errands (the REI in Anchorage is great!), and drove to Denali National Park.

Driving to the park we passed through Denali State Park, which was where the scenery started to get really beautiful — pine trees and mountains replaced hills and shopping malls.

We stopped at a viewpoint, but the clouds were too thick. There was no view of Denali today.
We stayed at the Lakeview Inn, which had a great view of Otto Lake.

Sheila had arranged a morning flight-seeing tour for our first day in Denali, but it was canceled due to fog at the airport. So we headed into Denali Park, and got bus tickets and camping permits, etc., and then explored the first 15 miles of the park, which are accessible to cars.

We then walked around the visitor center.
