Vets Memorial Park to Pfeiffer-Big Sur State Park
Wow – Beautiful day! And short, so we took our time. Most of it (from Carmel Highlands to Big Sur was the reverse of the Big Sur Walk I had done last year. I’ve now walked, driven, and biked this section of the road in the last two years, and it’s still breath-taking in its beauty.
We were lucky to get a space at Pfeiffer-Big Sur State Park. The earlier fires had cleared the hillside behind the park, and with the recent rain, the rangers were afraid the hills would flow right into the campground. The were requiring everyone to leave the park the next day. However, Benj & Candy told them our problem of Limekiln being closed, and they let us stay for the night. We had to promise to leave the next day.
Carissa’s Place
Beth and Tom came in last. They had been spending time checking out Carmel and the surroundings, and ran into Carissa! (An Odyssey 2000 rider.) She immediately invited us to her place in Big Sur for drinks. So, after an early dinner, we drove a little down the road and turned off. (We drove all over the mountain looking for her place, but we finally found it.)
She and Archie have a beautiful location, and a cool house. They were hosting a bunch of other friends – musicians they knew from [some big music gathering that escapes me…]. So we didn’t stay very long, just long enough to have some very good wine, and get a tour of her house and new office.
Pfeiffer-Big Sur State Park to Cambria
Wow – great, beautiful (long) day. As good as it gets, I think. Everyone got a chance to ride. Benj, Candy, and Mom drove the van about 20 miles down the road (over the first set of hills). So Dad got to ride the first 20 miles, and then get in the van and drove forward. Eventually, he swapped again with Mom, and finished the ride.
Eventually, things flattened out, and we got a powerful tailwind that blew us down the road into Cambria.
Cambria Layover Day
Layover day. I rested and worked on the web page. I never got to the beach, but Mom and Dad did, and said the wind kept blowing, and it was a little too cold to swim.
